Dearest reader,

With the recent announcement of the Bridgerton Kinkmeme, the ton is abuzz with rumours and gossip. This Author aims to clear up any questions and misunderstandings that surround the event.

 

What is a kink meme?

A Kink meme is where a user anonymously posts a pairing and a prompt. Another user then anonymously fills this request with either a piece of fanfiction or fanart.

When?

Beginning Friday April 8th and running for one month

Where?

On dreamwidth!

How do I post/fill a prompt?

Post your prompt as a comment on the kink meme post. Same for fills—reply to the prompt you are filling. Anonymously, of course! And don’t forget to include any warnings.

What ships/characters are welcome?

All ships and characters from both the Bridgerton novels by Julia Quinn, and the Netflix adaption. Just make sure you tag correctly for the required themes as stated in the rules. Please remember that both Eloise and Penelope are 17 in season/book one, and therefore require an underage warning in any prompts or fills set in that time period.

Can I fill a prompt that has already been filled?

Absolutely! There is no limit on how many times a prompt can be filled. Just be careful to reply to the original prompt, and not the other fill.

Can I prompt re-prompt something with variations?

Re-prompts with variations are okay. For example, a similar prompt with a different ship.

Some prompts will be very simple (ie. 'Colin/Penelope foot fetish') and some other will be very complex and a paragraph long, describing long and complicated ideas. In the first case go ahead with no worries. In the second case you might want to be nice and say that it's a variation on an already posted prompt, but it's not a requirement.

Re-prompting the same prompts just to bump it up is not okay. It is only going to create confusion and more work for us mods. If you're scared that the prompt will be hidden in pages and pages of comments you can rest assured. We've created a sorting page with all the prompts easily searchable exactly for this reason.

Can I fill a prompt with fanart or other media?

Yes please do!

Always refer to what is allowed to be posted on dreamwidth by their Terms of Service though (and the platform you are using to post it here. You cannot upload files directly in dreamwidth comments unfortunately. You can only post a link to them.)

Can I fill my own prompt?

You absolutely can—we’re all anonymous here, who is going to know the difference?

Can I just post a fill unprompted?

Yes you can, the fill of course still needs to fit the theme of the meme and follow the rules!

Do I need to claim the prompt?

No. Not at all. You can if you want to, but it won't have a lot of bearings to it, more like a warning to the prompter 'hey check this prompt back in the near future because I'm working on it'. It won't stop people from writing another fic on the same prompt because we are going to allow multiple fills for the prompts!

Does it have to be smut?

No, not really. It usually is dirty, filthy porn but there’s nothing requiring that. If you just want to prompt Simon and Daphne being all domestic go for it.

Can I post my fill on Ao3 and then link to it?

Yes you can. Also if you post on Ao3, consider adding your work to our collection.

How can I avoid kinks/ships/tropes I don’t like?

All prompts and fills should be tagged with the ship, as well as any of the major warnings. You can use this blocker script if you wish which will allow you to filter out comments with certain words like a blacklist.

No kinkshaming guys!

Copying from sherlockbbc_fic because they simplified it wonderfully:

• Telling someone that a kink is gross or wrong is kinkshaming.
• Implying there’s something morally wrong with the contents of a prompt or a fill is kinkshaming.
• Saying that a prompt or a fill would be better if it didn’t contain a certain kink is kinkshaming.
• Asking for clarification of a prompt is fine; asking why someone would want to read a fic containing certain elements is kinkshaming.

I'm confused about the dates on the kink meme - does this mean that's only the time for prompting, or that comments will be turned off after those dates? If it's just a week of prompting and filling, isn't that just a prompt fest rather than a kink meme? People are going to have to work fast to fill anything with only a week to work

Seconding all these questions! I'm excited about the idea of a Bridgerton kinkmeme, but having it be only open for a week is a real downer, especially if all the fills have to be posted that week too.

The entire event will run for the week only, prompts and fills included. I know it seems like a short time period, but a lot more can happen in a week than you think! And if you don't finish a fill you can always post it on ao3 later.
Since this is our first time doing this particular kink meme, we really don't know how popular it's going to be. It requires almost constant moderation and listing all the prompts and fills takes time too.
(Also I don't believe there is a minimum requirement of time for something to be called a kink meme, so yes, it is still a kink meme).

I'm still confused about the timing. Do the prompts AND the fills have to posted in that week, or just the prompts, and filling can continue afterwards?

Adding to what my co-moderator said: if there's interest in having it lasting longer and we see that the workload for us moderators is not unbearable we are open to extend it!

In other fandoms we have experienced these quick&dirty&unpolished rounds of kinkmemes and they are quite fun, I swear! Also, consider that the prompts will always be here and public and you can use them in the future even after the round ends.

Hi!! A few questions

1) if we post to ao3 does it have to be anon as well or can we post with our ao3 handle

2) I just found out about this today and I think 1 week isn’t enough for most ppl finding out about this and a lot of prompts haven’t been filled either. Wondering if we can extend? This is so fun and don’t want ppl to miss out!

For the Ao3 question, the anonymity is only enforced in this space, so you can do what you prefer on Ao3!
